Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Perform initial draft of motions, pleadings and other legal documents for Bankruptcy proceedings, such as petitions, exhibits, schedules, MFRs and POCs
Prepare and transmit Bankruptcy e-filings
Collect and review financial information for proceedings and review payment history for accuracy
Order loan documents, review mortgages and assignments for gaps in chain of title.
Research debts to determine whether those can be discharged
Monitor cases through court dockets, ensuring timelines are met
Research arguments in adversary proceedings
Manage calendar for attorney and schedule hearings
Answer and manage incoming phone calls and mail
Communicate with clients, the court, trustees, debtors and opposing counsel
Meticulous follow-up to ensure deadlines are not missed for which various pleadings must be served and filed
Prioritize and work at a fast pace on a high volume of files with great attention to detail
Maintain, organize and index all case files for Attorneys; file correspondence, pleadings and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Input and maintain information into case management system and ensure data integrity
Provide assistance to Attorneys and Lead Paralegal by maintaining, organizing and indexing all case files
Other duties as assigned
Ideal candidate will be an independent, self-directed, organized and a diligent worker, able to work with minimal supervision:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Degree or Paralegal Certificate, a plus
Minimum 3 year Creditors' Rights Bankruptcy experience in New Jersey
In depth understanding of Bankruptcy laws and Bankruptcy Court proceedings
Experience in various servicer systems, such as LPS, Lenstar, and Vendorscape
Experience filing Bankruptcy docs through ECF, desirable.
Previous experience with electronic case management systems, CaseAware preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as, Outlook, Word and Excel

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
